2nd Language opening downtown pizza shop
2nd Language will be adding a pizza shop to the Downtown restaurant in the former patisserie area. Neo-Neapolitan pizza similar to that served at sister restaurant Pangea Kitchen will be served, but in a carryout-friendly format that is baked in a special deck oven that permits the pizza to be larger and with a crisper crust. Packaged gelato pints from Pangea Kitchen will also be available. Opening is projected for late summer.

The Evansville Countryside Orchard postponed this weekend’s farm-to-table dinner because of bad weather and will host it instead on Saturday, June 11. The menu will feature barbecue and other dishes made with locally-sourced ingredients, and will be open to all ages. Strawberry and cherry picking should be happening at the same time, weather cooperating, and local artisans will be showcasing wares. Insomnia Cookies to open in Evansville
Insomnia Cookies has finalized a lease at Innovation Pointe in Downtown Evansville. The company is known for delivery of warm cookies until late at night. The opening date has not been announced.

It’s a Vibe Urban CoWork Space and Coffee House open
It’s a Vibe Urban CoWork Space and Coffee House is now open. On the menu are coffee and espresso drinks, mushroom coffee, teas including hibiscus and green tea, flavored lemonades and baked goods by Moochies Cakes. The coffee shop is open to the public. Meeting rooms and working spaces are available for rental or through a membership.

Granola Bar opens in Newburgh
The Granola Jar’s Newburgh restaurant is now open. This is the third location for the deli, bakery and café. Look for the house granola, lots of yummy cookies and baked goods, rolls, deli salads, freshly-made sandwiches, and green salads.

New businesses in former Schnuck’s building
The sign is up for the Guanajuato Market and The Taqueria Mexican Cuisine in the former Schnuck’s building at Green River Road and Washington Avenue. This will be the fourth location for The Taqueria, a fast-casual/authentic Mexican restaurant also in Eastland Mall, Bowling Green, Ky. and on First Avenue, although this spot will have a slightly different menu with additional specialties from central Mexico. Remodeling is ongoing and no opening date has been shared.
Guanajuato Market and The Taqueria will be at 4600 Washington Ave.

Jalisco Taqueria now open
The Jalisco Taqueria is now open on Logan Avenue near Lowe’s, behind White Castle, in the former Mele’s Diner location. The restaurant is by the owners of Jalisco Mexican Restaurant in Newburgh and offers authentic Mexican dishes such as street tacos, torta sandwiches, chicken and beef soups, and daily specials such as menudo and a “guiso del dia.” Some menu favorites from Jalisco Restaurant such as chicken on the beach, paella rice and buffalo wings will also be available as will a kids’ menu with a cheeseburger and chicken nuggets.

Barbecue food truck in Oakland City
John’s Smokin’ Barbecue in Oakland City, Indiana, now has a food truck active in Evansville that serves barbecue and Tex-Mex goodies with ground beef and chicken such as tacos, walking tacos, Tex-Mex fries and nachos as well as slushies and desserts in season. Fort Branch Mother Truckers Pizzeria open
Mother Truckers Pizzeria trailer is now open in Fort Branch, Indiana. It is part of the R’z Café and Catering Company empire along with Flora June’s Scoop Shoppe and The Brickhouse Boutique. Mother Truckers will serve stone-baked pizzas, salads and other goodies next to Flora June’s. The outdoor courtyard will often host live music, family-friendly events and more.

Myriad Brewing Company hosting vegan food truck
The Myriad Brewing Company will host the Vuture food truck on Tuesday, May 3, from 4-8 p.m. Vuture (vegan future) is a concept out of Los Angeles that sends food trucks peddling extreme “vegan junk food” all over the country. Expect to see huge loaded crispy chick’n sandwiches, loaded fries and more. The specific menu will be announced the day of the event.

Enter to win a charcuterie competition
Siciliano Charcuterie is hosting a Charcuterie Queen competition on Saturday, May 7. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and contest starts at 6 p.m. For the $85 entry fee, each team of two receives a bottle of wine to drink while you work, a charcuterie kit with meat, cheese, fruit, veggies, and dips, and a handcrafted charcuterie board. The winning team receives $150 and a charcuterie gift basket.
