The Hutton Firm Takes on Taco Chon Infringement Case

Herbert M. Pickett 13 hours ago

(KNSI) — A Minneapolis law firm has agreed to take on the case filed against Taco Chon in St. Cloud.

National restaurant chain Taco John’s filed a lawsuit against Taco Chon and owner Juan Ramos, saying the businesses’ names are too similar, and Taco Chon has profited from using that name and causing customer confusion.

A statement from The Hutton Firm and Lee Hutton III says, “The Hutton Firm and Lee Hutton are delighted to announce that we have been retained to represent Taco Chon Mexican Grill against the lawsuit started by fast-food chain Taco John’s.

The Hutton Firm is highly interested in supporting the Hispanic community in Minnesota and we will zealously defend Juan Ramos and his right to pursue his American Dream.”

In a press release, they equate Taco John’s lawsuit as “a fight reminiscent of a schoolyard showdown between the classic bully and his easy target, Juan

Food drive aims to fight hunger worsened by COVID-19 pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic has made affordable food nearly impossible to find for some New Mexican families. Now, Roadrunner Food Bank is working with letter carriers to fight that trend. Letter carriers picked food donations from homes across the metro all Saturday morning and brought them to the Steve Schiff Post Office. Now, the Roadrunner Food Bank is sorting through all of these donations. It’s been two years since they have been able to have this event because of the pandemic.Faith Schifani is the communications director for Roadrunner Food Bank.Schifani said, “We’re still seeing higher hunger rates than pre-pandemic, and people are impacted even more by higher food costs, inflation, and various things like that.”New Mexicans are facing a major problem — hunger. It’s gotten worse through the COVID-19 pandemic, but now letter carriers and volunteers are stepping up to help.Marie Montaño is a part of the National Association of Letter … Read More

Taco Bell Has Nothing On Taco John’s

A burrito and two tacos from the Taco John’s menu on a tray

In some ways, you never get past your first love. And I’ve tried, several times, to leave Taco John’s behind. There were the years where I stopped eating fast food, and then the years I spent in a job that took me 1,600 miles west of the franchise’s Midwest base. I thought I was done. Really, I did.

But Mexican food is my favorite, and has been since I was a kid. Whether on the streets of Playa del Carmen or at a small burrito stand in the Four Corners’ desert, I cannot shake the craving. And as much as I enjoy the vast, incredible tastes of this too often pigeonholed cuisine, Taco John’s was my first love.

Robots, ghosts and Mexican food

Happy Thursday and welcome back to the Streetwise newsletter.

This week is dedicated to creative solutions for longstanding problems. I covered both Mangiare and Ashwaubenon Bowl, which had innovative approaches to hurdles brought on by the pandemic.

First, Mangiare, an Italian restaurant that opened in downtown Green Bay in July, added a robot to its team to offer support during the worker shortage. The owner, Patrick Neph, explained how using the robot, Servi, ideally will relieve strain on his employees.

Ashwaubenon Bowl, a bowling alley and restaurant, had a lack of delivery orders during the onset of the pandemic because many didn’t think to order food from a bowling alley. To increase orders, it partnered with two delivery-only restaurants, also called ghost kitchens, and saw great returns.

In other business news, I covered Los Magueyes Mexican Restaurant, which opened a fourth location in Pulaski this week.

In case you missed
